The College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) at Cor Jesu College marked another milestone with the successful celebration of IT Week 2024, held from November 18 to November 22, 2024. Organized by the Association of Computer Studies Students, the event brought together IT and Computer Science students, faculty, and participants from other schools in a dynamic week filled with competitions, learning opportunities, and creative showcases.
Day 1: Opening Ceremonies and Competitions
The event officially opened on Monday, November 18, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by CCIS faculty and attended by students and guests. The opening program was hosted by Matt Navarez and Rhea Grace Balatero, setting an enthusiastic tone for the week ahead.
The morning’s activities featured a Photo Walk, where students explored their photography skills by capturing compelling scenes and moments around the campus, showcasing creativity and technical ability. Other morning competitions included a Quiz Bee, Fast Typing Competition, and a Rubik’s Cube Competition, all held inside the computer laboratories.
In the afternoon, a Career Talk provided invaluable insights from speakers on IT-related topics, inspiring students to explore various fields in technology. This was followed by the Programming Competition and Debugging Competition, where participants showcased their problem-solving abilities and technical expertise.
Day 2: Showcasing Creativity and Innovation
Day 2, held at Gaisano Grandmall of Digos, began with an engaging talk by Jasper Humprey O. Perez, a professional web and mobile application developer. The morning also featured a Short Film Competition, where students from different schools presented their creative outputs on the big screen, competing for top honors.
In the afternoon, graduating students made their thesis and capstone project presentations, publicly showcasing their innovative software developments for the first time. This was followed by the entertaining Movie Trailer Spoof Presentation, where participants demonstrated humor and creativity in their outputs. The day concluded with an awarding ceremony, recognizing outstanding performances from the competitions.
Day 3: Gaming and Entertainment
Day 3 centered on the E-sports Competition, featuring Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Call of Duty Mobile, where students competed in intense matches. Alongside the gaming events, the department hosted a Movie Marathon and set up merchandise and food stalls, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees.
Day 4: Competitive Spirit and Relaxation
Day 4 featured additional E-sports Competitions, including Dota 2 and Valorant, showcasing the skills and teamwork of participants. The day also continued with the Movie Marathon, offering students a chance to relax amidst the competitive excitement.
Day 5: Socio-Night and Conclusion
The final day of IT Week culminated in a memorable Socio-Night, themed after the popular K-drama Start-Up. Students arrived dressed for the occasion, blending style and creativity to match the theme. The night also featured the final awarding ceremonies, recognizing the best of the week’s events.
As the week came to a close, IT Week 2024 left a lasting impression on all who participated. It was a celebration of talent, creativity, and camaraderie, reflecting the CCIS department’s commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the field of technology.
