The College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEDAS) offers students relevant and meaningful curricular programs which allow them to develop knowledge, skills, competencies and values that assist them in responding responsibly and sensitively to the issues and challenges of the local, national, and global industry without compromising truth and justice.

TEACHERS EDUCATION PROGRAM

This program prepares teachers to become effective synthesizers of knowledge and efficient promoters and facilitators of learning in the light of their field of specialization and abreast with pedagogical principles that would enable the learners to develop to the fullest their potentials concomitant to a continuing pursuit of lifelong learning. A TED graduate should be able to:

  1. Articulate the rootedness of education in philosophical, socio-cultural, historical, psychological, and political contexts;
  2. Demonstrate mastery of subject matter/discipline;
  3. Facilitate learning using a wide range of teaching methodologies and delivery modes appropriate to specific learners and their environments;
  4. Develop innovative curricula, instructional plans, teaching approaches, and resources for diverse learners;
  5. Apply skills in the developments and utilization of ICT to promote quality, relevant, and sustainable educational practices;
  6. Demonstrate a variety of thinking skills in planning, monitoring, assessing, and reporting learning processes and outcomes;
  7. Practice  professional and ethical teaching standards sensitive to the local, national, and global realities; and
  8. Pursue lifelong learning for personal and professional growth through varied experiential and field-based opportunities.

The programs under the Teachers Education Program are:

This program provides students with fundamental understanding and application of the principles of early childhood care and education, as well as experience in the application of these principles. This program also aims to educate individuals to be competent early childhood practitioners working with children from 0-8 years old in various early childhood settings (home, community, school, and workplace). It is aligned with the National Early Learning Framework (NELF), the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS 2017) and the first key stage which is K to 3. A graduate of BECEd should be able to:
  • Demonstrate high level of content and pedagogical knowledge;
  • Demonstrate appreciation for diversity;
  • Manifest collaborative skills; 4. Demonstrate innovative thinking;
  • Possess critical and problem solving skills;
  • Advocate for children’s rights, equity, community, nationalism, and democratic ideas;

This program outfits future graduates in building and cultivating relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, other professionals and learning communities, advocating for Physical Education (PEd), being role models of integrity and professional excellence, as well as leaders in the service of education. A graduate of BPEd should be able to:
  • Apply scientific and evidence-based practices critical to the educational and learning processes;
  • Demonstrate skillful performance in a variety of physical activities;
  • Adapt performance to variety of physical activity settings;
  • Critically examine the curriculum and program, and enhance them necessarily;
  • Plan and implement safe and effective physical activity programs to address the needs of individual and groups in school and/or non-school settings;
  • Monitor and evaluate physical activity programs in school and/or non-school settings;
  • Use appropriate assessments in, and for student or client learning;
  • Use information, media and technology in pedagogy and for lifelong learning;

A graduate of BSEd (English) should be able to:

  • Use English as a global language in a multilingual context as it applies to the teaching of language and literature;
  • Acquire extensive reading background in language, literature, and allied fields;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication;
  • Shows competence in employing innovative language and literature teaching approaches, methodologies, and strategies;
  • Use technology in facilitating language learning and teaching;
  • Inspire students and colleagues to lead relevant and transformative changes to improve learning and teaching language and literature; and

  • Nagpapakita ng malawak at malalim na pag-unawa at kaalaman sa ugnayan ng wika, kultura, at lipunan;
  • Nakagagamit ng iba-t ibang kasanayan at kaalaman sa proseso ng patuturopagkatuto;
  • Nagtataglay ng kaalaman hinggil sa usapin ng cultural at linggwistikang dibersidad ng bansa;
  • Nakapagdidisenyo ng malikhain, inobatibo at integratibong mga alternatibong dulog sa patututo at pagkatuto; at

  • Manifest meaningful and comprehensive pedagogical content knowledge of mathematics;
  • Demonstrate competence in designing, constructing and utilizing different forms of assessment in mathematics;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in problem-solving by solving and creating routine and non-routine problems with different levels of complexity; and

ARTS AND SCIENCES PROGRAM

Graduates of this program are in demand in fields that require effective use of the English language to realize specific goals. Career opportunities include academic and scholarly work such as teaching and research, business and industry jobs such as public relations, advertising and documentation, and media and publishing such as writing, translating and editing, and government and diplomatic service.

Moreover, the study of literature involves training in a range of skills, including advanced communicative competence, effective strategies in rhetoric and research, and modes of literacy that provide access to macro/micro skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening, interpretation and critical thinking) and integrated/integrative competencies (problem solving, independent study, research, creativity/innovation, teamwork, appreciation of different perspectives, intellectual flexibility, inter-cultural/linguistic adaptability).

Furthermore, the College offers the Criminology program which is envisioned as significant educational institution actively and continually involved in producing graduates who have the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in addressing the problems of criminality in the country and the character and competence to meet the challenges of globalization in the field of criminology.

Further still, Psychology as a discipline and professional practice contributes to national development through basic and applied research and interventions aimed at solving problems and promoting optimal development and functioning at the individual, family, group, organizations/institutions, community and national levels.

Global communication in the twenty-first century is made possible by the use of a language understood by all. That language is English, the medium used in the pursuit of knowledge, the advancement of science and technology, and the development of business and industry. It gives humankind access to the infinite resources of the internet and thus enables countries to work together to achieve their common goals. The courses in the program are designed to integrate theory and practice to prepare the students for effective communication in English in diverse contexts and situations. A graduate of ABE should be able to:
  • Articulate a comprehensive and contextualized view of the English language system and development;
  • Communicate in English (both oral and written) fluently, accurately, and creatively in diverse social, cultural, academic, and professional settings;
  • Facilitate English language learning in diverse social, cultural, academic, and professional settings;
  • Participate effectively in oral communication situations where language systems (phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic) vary;
  • Produce well-written texts for various academic and professional purposes.

This program equips graduates with enhanced mathematical and critical thinking skills. Graduates are expected to have developed deeper appreciation and understanding of the importance of mathematics in history and the modern world. They will be able to do research or perform jobs that require analytical thinking and quantitative skills. The program provides students with substantial exposure to the breadth and depth of mathematics, from classical to contemporary, and from theoretical to applied. The curriculum covers foundational course in core areas of mathematics/applied mathematics as well as advanced courses that will help prepare graduates to pursue higher studies or work in a variety of fields. A graduate of BSM should be able to:
  • Gain mastery in the core areas of mathematics: algebra, analysis, and geometry;
  • Demonstrate skills in pattern recognition, generalization, abstraction, critical analysis, synthesis, problem-solving and rigorous argument;
  • Develop an enhanced perception of the vitality and importance of mathematics in the modern world including inter-relationships within math and its connection to other disciplines;
  • Appreciate the concept and role of proof and reasoning and demonstrate knowledge in reading and writing mathematical proofs;
  • Make and evaluate mathematical conjectures and arguments and validate their own mathematical thinking; and
  • Communicate mathematical ideas orally and in writing using clear and precise language.

Graduates of the BS in Psychology program could be licensed psychometricians or work in the academe, in HR, research. Graduates may also pursue careers in medicine, law, management, etc. With further specialized training, graduates of this program may pursue specializations in Psychology such as clinical, counseling, developmental, educational, social, industrial/organizational, etc. A graduate of the BSP should be able to:
  • Demonstrate the capability to discuss and analyze the major theories and concepts in Psychology (knowledge in Psychology);
  • Demonstrate and apply the methods of Psychological inquiry in building knowledge on local culture and context (Psychological research);
  • Demonstrate and apply psychological theories and methods in personal and professional setting (application of Psychology);
  • Demonstrate capability for self-reflection and dependent learning in graduate education or in a professional context (independent learning);
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors in research and practice in Psychology;
  • Demonstrate harmonious international relationship with colleagues, clients and others (interpersonal skills) in diverse cultural setting;
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct psychological assessments and evaluation (Psychological assessment);
  • Demonstrate effective skills and technical knowledge in clinical assessment, human resource management, school counseling and teaching the practical application of psychological theories and principles in the clinical, industry and school setting (application of psychological skills and technical knowledge); and
  • Demonstrate capability in doing scientific researches which findings are used for community development (application of researches in the community).
