After winning the 2022 Battle of the Nightingales: Inter-Nursing School Quiz Bowl in Region XI, the CHS nursing team claimed their second title during the ensuing season of the BOTN Quiz Bowl on May 5, 2023, at Abreeza Mall, Davao.
The team was represented by all Level III nursing students: Antonette Marie F. Alejandro, Jessely Trisha U. Lape, and Krizzabel Corinth N. Cadayona; led by their coach, Jeezreel M. Orquina, who guided them during their preparation.
Twelve (12) schools competed in the preliminary round; Mati Doctors’ College, St. John Paul II College of Davao, Davao Medical School Foundation, St. Mary’s College of Tagum, Inc., University of Immaculate Concepcion, Davao Doctors College, Polytechnic College of Davao del Sur, Cor Jesu College, Brokenshire College, Tagum Doctors College, University of Mindanao, and San Pedro College. Cor Jesu College finished second in the preliminary.
Five (5) schools advanced to the championship round, where Cor Jesu College tails second to St. John Paul II College of Davao during the easy and moderate phases. During the difficult phase, Cor Jesu College dominated its opposing teams, taking over first place. Cor Jesu College emerged as the Battle of the Nightingales Champion once more when the quiz bee concluded.
The students received a cash prize of Php 20, 000, while their coach received Php 5, 000. Moreover, the students will each receive Php 100, 000 of scholarship grant during their senior year in college. In addition, each of them will also receive a Php 25, 000 scholarship grant for licensure review prior to taking the Nurse Licensure Examination.
Declared BOTN Region XI Champions, the team will represent Region XI at the upcoming 1st Nationwide Battle of the Nightingales that will take place in October 2023. The winning prize at stake for the National Champion is Php 100, 000 and Cor Jesu College is eyeing becoming the first among equals.
