During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the economic stability of many families throughout the country, the residents of Digos City also felt its impact.
In response, the Cor Jesu College – Br. Polycarp Institute for Community Development Foundation Incorporated initiated its own version of a community pantry. Led by Mrs. Maribel Guerra, the foundation launched a community pantry situated outside the Cor Jesu College Campus, along Estrada 3rd Street in Digos City.
The community pantry offered a variety of goods, including rice, eggs, canned goods, noodles, powdered coffee, chocolate drinks, and a selection of fresh vegetables and fruits. Every day, the pantry was replenished with supplies, and people from different walks of life, primarily from the less fortunate sectors of the community, lined up before it opened at 8:30 in the morning. This effort by the foundation provided much-needed assistance to those economically affected by the pandemic.
