Students from different colleges and universities in the province of Davao del Sur converged in Cor Jesu College for the 1st Davao del Sur Student Research Congress last January 16, 2015.
Among the participants, 43 students presented their research papers. Awards such as Best Oral Presentation and Best Powerpoint were given to deserving presenters. The event was sponsored by the Association of Private and State Colleges and Universities in Region XI (APSCUR) and Cor Jesu College (CJC), in partnership with the Center for Social Development Research (CSDR), Student Services Center (SSC), Division of Business and Accountancy and Teacher Education Division (TED).
In his welcome address, Bro. Ellakim P. Sosmeña, SC, APSCUR and CJC president, appreciated the efforts of the student researchers and acknowledged the support of the participating schools in sending them to the congress.
Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, CHED regional director, challenged the students to continue their passion for research which for him is an important component for the country’s competitiveness in the ASEAN 2015 integration. “In terms of research, the Philippines is lagging behind its neighboring countries in terms of research production”, Dr. Alvarez emphasized. Other guests gracing the event were CHED supervisors Dr. Susan Labutap and Dr. Nelia Alibin.
Dr. Reynaldo Cuizon, Research Director of University of Mindanao, was the plenary speaker who expounded on the theme “Maximizing Student Scientific Contribution: Positioning Higher Education within the ASEAN regional Integration.”
Schools which participated were Cor Jesu College, South Philippine Adventist College, University of Mindanao and Southeastern College of Padada.
