Digos City, Philippines — Cor Jesu College actively participated in the Annual Simultaneous Nationwide Earthquake Drill on July 2, 2013. In collaboration with the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (DDRMC) of the city of Digos, the administrators, faculty and staff as well students of the institution participated the drill in preparation for unpredictable disaster like earthquake.
Exactly 9:00 o’clock in the morning of July 2, 2014, sirens filled the air which marked the start of the simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill. During the drill, all were so serious in playing their part. Students and employees even parents and by-standers inside the campus participated in the event where everybody ducked, covered, held their hands and walked silently to the designated evacuation area. The drill lasted for two hours.
Evaluation took place in the CJC gymnasium after the drill where no less than the City Mayor of Digos City Atty. Joseph Peñas, CPA was present. This was done to assess the performance of the CJC community.
Prior to the said nationwide earthquake drill, an orientation was conducted to the faculty members and staff last June 24, 2014. Important matters like the dos and don’ts as well as how to respond properly during an earthquake was thoroughly discussed by Arvin Jay Leal, consultant of DDRMC.
