Cor Jesu College (CJC) Red Lions recently dominated the Regional Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Meet held in Digos City on March 6 – 8, 2015.With the theme “Nurturing Peace and Unity through Culture and Sports”, the annual event was graced by the presence of the Honorable Mayor of Digos City Joseph R. Peñas, CPA.
After a long medal drought in sepak takraw, the Red Lions scored a huge surprise and made history when they defeated their two formidable foes, University of Mindanao-Davao City and University of Mindanao-Tagum City (UMTC). The latter faced Red Lions during their championship duel at the CJC Open Court in March 8. CJC, in a twice-to-beat advantage, stopped UMTC to capture the title.
In volleyball, the game was not easy but the Red Lions pulled out a straight-set win over the University of Mindanao-Davao City (27-25, 25-19, 25-22) during their final match Sunday afternoon (March 8) at the CJC Gymnasium.
The Red Lions also hauled gold medals on the following events: Badminton (Men and Women), Taekwondo (Men and Women), Chess (Men and Women), Table Tennis (Men and Women), and Athletics (Men and Women).
Cor Jesu College started strengthening its sports program in 2008 when Mr. Roy Mamac was appointed as the Sports Coordinator. Since then, it showed no sign of slowing down.“We have strengthened the sports program for seven (7) years already. Now, we have reaped these successes because of hard work and determination. I have big plans for the sports program of Cor Jesu College. One is to have a descent gym equipped with complete exercises equipment for the purpose of physical exercises of our athletes. Going to the gym must be done in a regular basis,” said Mr. Mamac.
The Red Lions will represent Region-XI in the upcoming National PRISAA Meet in Iloilo City on April 12-28, 2015.
