The Economy of Communion (EOC) Focolare Movement in partnership with the College of Special Programs (CSP) and the College of Accountancy, Business and Entrepreneurship (CABE) conducted this year’s Business Seminar last March 25, 2023 at the CJC Edtech Hall. With the theme “Building a New Economy and the Culture of Giving”, the EOC Commission offered an in-person program through a Business Seminar for the Business and Management students. A total of 156 students from the CSP-BSBA and Regular BSBA Program, CSP Hospitality Management students, and UM Digos College BSBA students participated in the seminar.
The guest speakers were Mr. John Paul Dominic “Nikko” Yumul, Lecturer at the Ateneo de Manila, Department of Economics and Coordinator of Economy of Communion Philippines; Mr. Gino Bulan, the Chief Executive Officer at Focolare Carpentry, a manufacturer of high quality, custom-made furniture and woodcraft operating in the province of Rizal; and Ms. Melissa “Isa” Nugas, an entrepreneur and pioneer of the Isabella Tree of Life brand of coconut tree-based products, which features premium quality, organic and locally (Davao) sourced food and non-food merch, also a graduate of the Go Negosyo and Department of Trade and Industry’s entrepreneurial mentorship program, Kapatid Mentor ME.
After the event, a certificate of appreciation was given to each of the speakers through Dr. Hermogenes C. Orion, Jr., CSP Dean, Dr. Erikka June D. Forosuelo, the CSP-BSBA Program Head and Mrs. Bernadette B. Aves, MBA, the BSBA Program Head of the Regular BSBA Program. After the discussions, an open forum took place wherein students asked significant questions that impressed the EOC members and the speakers.
The business seminar ended well with a thought in mind among the participants-a reminder from the EOC speakers that it is very important to nurture the culture of love and giving in engaging to any business endeavor.
