High School Batch ’89 successfully hosts Grand Alumni Homecoming

On its ninth annual run, the 2014 annual High School Grand Alumni Homecoming  was successfully hosted by High School Batch ’89 last December 30, 2014 at the Cor Jesu College gymnasium with the theme: #throwback89

The event started with a 20-car motorcade by  Batch ’89 and Batch ’81, and joined by the bikers from batch ’87 around 3:00PM , followed by a Holy Mass Celebration at the CJC gym officiated by Rev. Father Rico Dingal.

Around 40 Silver Jubilarians from Batch ’89 paraded as the Hon. Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Dondon Llanos (Batch ’89) conducted the class roll call as Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The Jubilarians then delivered the most heart-warming rendition of their batch song , Fra Lippo Lippi’s Light and Shade to an estimated 400 plus alumni homecomers. Dr. Kirt Diaz, the current Basic Education Principal and Director of Institutional Affairs opened the homecoming with a soul-searching question – “So you are alumni…so what? Now what?”. Dr. Dexter Masongsong, Batch ’89 president welcomed the participants as the most gracious gentleman host of the night in behalf of his batch. Br. Ellakim Sosmena, CJC president proceeded to update the alumni with the latest news from Cor Jesu College and Engr. Nelson Tandug, the newly appointed External and Alumni Affairs officer and current ICT Director  asked the participants to come and visit Cor Jesu College after the homecoming and participate in key projects like the building of the Pierced Heart of Jesus Chapel at the Piazza de Sacro Cuore in 2015.

The program continued with the hosting turn-over from Batch 89 to Batch 90. Representatives from Batch 90 gamely went on stage to accept the hosting challenge for the 10th annual Grand HS Alumni Homecoming on December 2015. Certificates of Appreciation and token gifts were awarded by Batch ’89 to members of faculty. Present were Mr. Ely Calumpiano, Mr. Daddy Cansancio, Mrs. Oying Geverola and Mrs. Luz Garciano.

As the buffet dinner opened, the whole gym resonated with the pleasant sounds of the 80s’s courtesy of the band – Music Authority, direct from Davao City.  Minor and Major prizes were raffled off throughtout the evening, capped by a 3-set fireworks display at the Miserior grounds. The band wrapped up the night with an extended 4th set around past-midnight, new year’s eve.
