The Local Government of Malalag and Cor Jesu College (CJC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last August 24, 2017 at the Mayor’s Office, Municipality of Malalag, Davao del Sur, Philippines.
The scope and fields of cooperation in the MOU included the following:
- joint technical surveys
- joint technical studies
- joint research activities
- joint computer works
- exchange of publication, data and information
- and sharing of other activities and programs in areas of mutual interest and benefit.
Right after the signing of the MOU, the signing of one MOA followed. The MOA, the first engagement between LGU Malalag and CJC, specifically stipulated the joint technical surveys and technical studies in the Municipality of Malalag. These two activities will update the municipality’s Comprehensive Development Plan (CPD) and Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP).
Hon. Mayor Peter Paul T. Valentin expresses his joy for the realization of such partnership. “This is a big help for our municipality. For the students, they can practice what they learned in school and can extend help to us, which can also be their legacy to the Municipality of Malalag,” he adds.
The good mayor, who is an alumnus of CJC, is optimistic about the success of the collaboration. “This partnership will be successful and the young people can use this experience and pass it on to future generations,” he emphasized.
Bro. Ellakim P. Sosmeña, SC, Ph.D., CJC President, is thankful to the mayor for the opportunity. “In behalf of the Board of Trustees and the community of Cor Jesu College, I am happy to have this engagement with the municipality of Malalag. Basically, it is an opportunity for the school to be of service to Malalag,” Bro. Sosmeña said.
The president assures the mayor of his full support to the partnership. “We will make sure this is successful so that we can contribute to the development of Malalag,” Bro. Sosmeña adds.
The signatories of the MOU and MOA are Hon. Mayor Peter Paul T. Valentin, Mr. Juanzo Calumpong, Municipal Administrator, CJC President Bro. Ellakim P. Sosmeña, SC, Ph.D., and Engr. Jonas Placer, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology (CET).
Witnesses to the signing are some officials from the LGU of Malalag and administrators of Cor Jesu College headed by Dr. Alex D. Niez, VP for Academic Affairs and Dr. Kirt Anthony R. Diaz, Director of Institutional Affairs.
