MAED, MLIS, and BSED students team up in International Lecture Series

The Graduate School of Cor Jesu College conducted another International Lecture Series last April 18, 2021, facilitated by Master of Arts in Education (MAED) students together with Master in Library Information Science (MLIS) and with the special participation of Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED)Major in English students. The three programs teamed up in partaking in the virtual lecture about “Teaching the 21st Century: Thailand Experience”. This lecture series provides an opportunity for the students to be exposed to the new teaching pedagogies and get acquainted with an international speaker from LannaTak, Thailand.

The virtual lecture was emceed by Juvani Rojo, and it was opened with a prayer by Lee Glenda C. Precillas, a MAED student. Dr. Alex D. Niez, the Dean of Graduate School of CJC, delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Ida Gauran-Tudy, the Program Coordinator of MAED, introduced the guest speaker.

The speaker, Dr. Sawitri Suwanaroa, is an esteemed educator from the Rajamagala University of Technology in Tak campus, Thailand. She graduated from the University of South Australia in 2012 with a Doctor of  Education Degree in TESOL. For the past 8 years, she has been a national and international speaker at different conferences. She also has international publications in the Scopus indexed journals.  She loves to share her learning, especially in the English language – TESOL, ESL, EFL, and sociolinguistics. That is why she enthusiastically shared her teaching experiences in Thailand.

Dr. Suwanaroa shared the educational system in their country and how the quality of education has improved by undertaking reform of the knowledge system. She presented the Framework of Education Model in the 21st Century and determined that Thailand’s teaching development system was reformed in different key areas. Her presentation is an eye-opener, especially to the students, giving them the perspective of having a quality education system and being an effective and efficient teacher in 21st-century learning.

There were few questions raised and entertained during the open forum and the program was closed with a remark of gratitude by Dr. Anna Liza C. Cerbo, one of the professors of the Graduate School. The international lecture series ended up smoothly with much learning on the part of the participants. There were 55 participants in the Zoom meeting and almost 800 viewers in the CJC Facebook page live stream. This international lecture series marks another milestone in the journey towards the progress and development of graduate school students.
