Millan named Best Oral Presenter in DepEd Research Forum

Mr. John Millan, a graduate school student of Cor Jesu College (CJC) and a teacher at Digos City National High School (DiCNHS), was adjudged as the Best Oral Presenter during the 3rd Research Forum sponsored by the Department of Education (DepEd)-Region XI last September 20-21, 2018 at Regal Hotel, Bajada, Davao City.

Researchers coming from different public schools in Region XI attended the forum.  Seventy-one (71) researchers participated in the poster presentations while 20 others were selected for oral presentation.   The papers, both for oral and poster presentations, were divided into thematic areas, namely, Teaching and Learning, Governance, Human Resource and Development,  Child Protection, Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Gender and Development, and Inclusive Education.

A total of 168 participants joined the forum. Aside from the researchers, also present were schools division superintendents, assistant school superintendents, research in-charge from different divisions, and the staff of the Policy, Planning and Research Division headed by Dr. Madilyn Madrazo.

Millan presented his paper, co-authored by Randy A. Tudy of Cor Jesu College, entitled “Continuing Education for Pregnant High School Students through Knowledge-Bridging Using Self-Giving Modules (KBSM).”  He was one of the presenters under the Child Protection theme. After his presentation, no less than the Assistant Regional Director Teresita Tambagan, the highest DepEd official present in the forum, approached Mr. Millan to personally give her congratulation and appreciation of the study being presented.

Dr. Winnie E. Batoon, Schools Division Superintendent of Digos City, also congratulated Mr. Millan.  “Congratulations, sir!  The DepEd City Division is very proud of you,” Dr. Batoon commented.

The forum and the conduct of researches were funded through the DepEd’s Basic Education Research Fund (BERF).  It is a grant provided by DepEd to support education research in aid of evidence-based policy formation.
