The new five- and four-storey academic and administrative buildings of Cor Jesu College are nearly completed. The buildings will be equipped with elevator, air-conditioned offices, faculty lounge, clinic and classrooms for the graduate and law schools. There will also be more than 30 classrooms for the undergraduate programs, student lounge, and chemistry, biology, internet and computer laboratories. The roof-deck (5th floor) will be used as a multi-purpose hall where it could be used for any school programs and activities.
This project was once conceptualized in 2009 by the incumbent School President Br. Ellakim P. Sosmeña, S.C. He said that “since many of the classrooms are old and are already fire hazard because they are made of wood, it would be good to build structures that would last long – concrete ones.” He then proposed that this would be a jubilee project of the school.
Presently, classrooms and laboratories on the left-wing of the buildings have already been utilized. A number of classes have been accommodated. Many have expressed their appreciation for these new facilities. “I am really happy that we have new classrooms with new steel-fabricated armchairs,” a 2nd year College student said.
The construction started in August 2011 under R.G Salanatin Construction from Davao City. The projected period for its completion will be in December 2012.
