Last June 27, 2014, right after the liturgical celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, Brother Richard Belanger, S.C officiated the blessing and inauguration of the newly renovated, much improved Learning and Information Resource Center at the 3rd and 2nd floors of the likewise newly renovated Bouley Building.
Boasting of wider spaces and new facilities, the new LIRC aims to serve a much larger patron base with comfort and convenience in mind.
The 3rd floor entrance is through a bridge way which links the Coindre and Bouley buildings and opens to the New Arrivals section. Across the entrance is the Reserves area for in-demand books and references with limited inventory. The Law and Graduate School area is to the left. As one proceeds to the right through a spacious hallway, the Periodicals section is quite accessible, with plenty of reading space to read on the latest topics of interest.
A refreshing and innovative addition is the Learning Commons – a glass-encased air-conditioned area designed for a more relaxed and casual learning experience.
The Faculty, Reference and Filipiniana sections are easily accessible after the periodicals area, and a convenient lounge is situated just at the entrance of a Discussion Room – a perfect place for more intensive exchanges of ideas.
Down the staircase to the 2nd floor area are the Circulation Stacks and the Technical and Staff rooms. Underneath the staircase, one finds a throwback piece of memorabilia- the wooden Card Catalogue shelf that has been effectively replaced by the OPAC facilities. Dr. Leticia Cansancio, the LIRC Director, claims the piece to be still quite useful.
For your research and reference needs, go visit the new LIRC today. It dares to impress!
