Cor Jesu College Inc. opened its newly retrofitted six-story infrastructure, the Norbert Building. Such a remarkable event was celebrated by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, CJC employees, alumni, and other guests to open new doors for a more advanced learning environment. It began with a Holy Mass and was followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing on July 28, Friday.
When the Norbert Building was built in 2017, it became partially functional and made available to Senior High-School students in 2019. After a few months of operation, it was damaged due to the series of earthquakes that occurred in many parts of Mindanao in the same year, which also caused the fall of the 5-story Coindre Building, the 3-story Bouley Building, and the 3-story Polycarp Building.
In 2021, the management of the institution decided to fully begin its renovations as the building was still able to maintain its integrity despite the disaster, according to the structural engineer. Meanwhile, provisional classrooms had already been set up for the institution’s mission to offer quality education may continue despite the adversity. Those structures were known today as Camp Raymond and Miserior Buildings.
Such newly accomplished infrastructure project was managed by the two engineering alumni of the institution; Engr. Woody Cabardo as the Project Structural Consultant and Engr. Archangelo Alegado as the Project Manager. The two were also given due recognition during the event.
The Norbert Building is targeted to become fully functional on August 23, at the start of the academic year 2023-2024, and is set to be generally utilized by the students, administrators, faculty, and staff of the college department.
This initiative clearly shows that the institution has remained true and dedicated to its vision of becoming a premier Catholic institution in Southern Mindanao, according to Br. Ernesto A. Quidet, Jr., SC, DBA, the Vice President for Finance and Administration.
