The Technical Vocational Education Department (TVED) of Cor Jesu College, Inc., spearheaded by its administrator Engr. Wayne D. Manabat distributed a total of 793 smartphones to public senior high school students enrolled in Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) track through the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Joint Delivery Voucher Programs (JDVP) February this year.
Among those who benefited from the project were 500 students from the Division of Davao del Sur, 264 students from the Division of Davao Occidental, and 29 students from the Division of Digos City who are enrolled in the JDVP program for this school year.
The purchase of smartphones was made possible through the scholarship voucher worth P12, 550.00 per learner-beneficiary originally allotted for training cost and assessment fee.
While the DepEd emphasized in its previously released D.O. 35 series of 2020 that the “National Competency Assessment for this year’s JDVP implementation is not mandatory”, Cor Jesu College TVED decided to use the budget for assessment to purchase the smartphones for students to use in their online classes and provide the appropriate training since face-to-face classes are not possible due to the pandemic.
“We believed that smartphones could aid the learning of the students since hands-on learning is not possible during this time. Students were also given data load per week so they can join the online classes regularly. In other words, resources like phones, loads, and consumables are provided through this program,” said Engr. Manabat, MTE, TVED’s program manager and administrator.
“Thanks to the approval and support of our school President, Br. Ellakim P. Sosmeña, S.C., Ph.D., and our Finance Director Mrs. Eva Bracil, CPA, MBA, we were able to use the assessment and training funds for this gadget and load distribution instead” added Engr. Manabat.
The distribution was led by Engr. Wayne D. Manabat and Rose Marie D. Florencio, LPT from the school’s TVED.
This JDVP was organized by DepEd in 2016 to assist Grade 12 students in DepEd public SHSs identified as having inadequate facilities, equipment, tools, and teachers relevant to the implementation of TVL specializations.
The tuition fee assistance shall be in the form of JDVP-TVL voucher given to learner-beneficiaries to enable them to cross-enroll for the completion of TVL specializations in eligible private Senior High Schools (SHSs), non-DepEd public SHSs, or private Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs). The school has been a partner with DepEd in the implementation of JDVP
